The Purge

The movie “The Purge” ties a knot with structural function theory and conflict theory.  I think it relates to Durkheim’s notion that crime is impossible to eliminate. I feel you can’t eliminate crime as you see in the movie “The Purge” crime is a normal behavior that people must commit to help relieve the tension they might feel towards someone or even a complete stranger. I think crime is necessary or “purging” to teach individual order. This movie is a great explain because they are given set time fame and by knowledge they only commit crime for that time period. Basically the government still has order over the society. This also is connected with “Politic and Government in the book. As you can see the “The Purge” does have connection with sociology. First most important it deals with deviance which playing important role in the society rules and regulation on how everything function. The government believes that giving people 12-hours to commit any crimes help that relieves stress. The government still has control over society but the hate crimes that are being commitment the government give the society the option to commit any crime they desire. By allowing this they made to make every crime legal. The government also believed since “purging” was created, crime rate went down and had lower employment rate. The “The Purge” also connect with “The Economy and Work” in the book. Since it deals with decrease in unemployment because of “purging” that causes the economy to function better. Since the economy is better there are more job opportunities and giving those who are in need of a job. But since “purging” in part of society those who are being killed where once perhaps employed. Causing more jobs available for other individuals take over there place in the workplace. There were also locked downs for those who didn’t want to take part in “purging” individuals who wanted to take protect their family from the madness. This also ties with “Family.” This encounters social interaction because how people interact with one of another to commit hate crime on anything individuals. They form groups and organize their plan to kill or torture any individual. For example, the neighbor join together to try and kill a family because they think they are better them. There are forming “Group and Organization” to overpower a family who do not take part of the annual “purging.” These groups are basically form to kill anyone that crosses their path or just want to have fun in killing innocent people. They vagrant from the norms and turn it into devious behavior. The only way to overcome the norm it’s fighting against each other. But I feel “purging” is a good way to relieves stress but I think brutally in killing innocent people this is not the best way a society she be run by the government especially. All crimes shouldn’t be legal; that is just unmanageable for any society to take place. But this movie have a lot of connection in sociology base on the conflict theory is basically about the problems family have to encounter is their neighbor are trying to kill them. This will be a micro level. And the structural function theory is dealing with society as Marco level, because “purging” is a society conflict that individual are facing annual to survive well their entire society is committing hatred crimes.
