Blog Critique
For the most part, the blog I chose
to review is supposed to be based on patriarchy. Patriarchy is the dominance of
men t to women. This issue will always exist in society because it is too late
to change people’s mind about men being more superior to women in my opinion.
The person who wrote this blog feels the same way I do. To some things up, a
female officer reported news to a male, which cause him to shoot himself. The
blog is titled, “The Persistent Sexist Stereotypes in Mass Media Department.”
It argues how this incident leads the media to see a sexist view in the female officers’
job. The media argues that a police job is a job for men. This is a sexist
view. The blogger incorporated patriarchy to fit into the situation. I think it
fits bit is not the main point in this case. Just because the blogger feels
that society is upset that, a female had the position does not mean patriarchy
is shown here. It is more of gender and gender role that is taking place here
along with sexist bias. That fact that
there was controversy about the female officer having the role of being a
police officer and having this privilege is a perfect example of gender and
gender roles: society attaching social traits and positions to a specific
gender. So in this case the blogger was wrong in the way that s/he added
patriarchy not that s/he added. If the blogger would have stated the sexist
bias s/he saw and then connected it to
how society always compare occupations to men, s/he could have argued this is
patriarchy because society’s minds are set up to believe this way. The blog is
organized in a well manner. The writer showed good emphasis on certain words so
that the readers can get a feel of what s/he was trying to engage. The article
shows was one of such to make his/her argument but it just was not presented
well in my opinion. Patriarchy, sexist bias, gender and gender role is not
something that hard to make out. One just has to know the exact actions that
are causing these things to exist.
Overlooking comments of the blogs other seems to agree with some
statement made only, and not be in agreement with the entire blog. If the
writer would have focused on gender roles or sexist bias than patriarchy, the
blog would have been more successful.
